      Baku
Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, lies on the Absheron Peninsula on the Caspian Sea. It is the country's largest city, home to more than 2 million people, and the lowest-lying capital in the world. The city is known for its strong winds, reflected in its name, which comes from the Persian Badkube. Baku has a subtropical semi-desert climate with hot summers and mild winters. It is best visited in early spring or autumn, to avoid the scorching days. Baku is also home to the peninsula's largest lake, Boyukshor.
