The international airport in Basel is one of the few airports in the world managed by two countries, in this case Switzerland and France. The airport is situated on the border of three countries - Switzerland, France and Germany - and it thereby operates under the name EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg with as many as three IATA codes: BSL, MLH and EAP. The airport is located approximately 4 km northwest of the centre of Basel (Switzerland), 20 km southwest of Mulhouse (France) and 46 km southwest of Freiburg (Germany). It has one terminal, but the building is divided into two separate parts – the Swiss and the French. The airport is used by nearly 30 regular and low-cost carriers and serves over 7 million passengers yearly. The nearest hotel is located approx. 4 km away.
