King Shaka International Airport is located in the KwaZulu-Natal province, 30 km from Durban in La Mercy. The airport contains 2 terminals, one for passengers and the other for cargo. In 2012, a little less than 5 million passengers benefited from its services, which is why it is ranked 9th on the list of the busiest airports in Africa.
In 2013, Skytrax announced King Shaka Airport to be the best airport in the world (in the category of serving up to 5 million passengers yearly).
In the year of 2010, the airport substituted: Durban International Airport, which is located less than 50 km south of the current facility. Currently, Durban International Airport infrastructure is used for military purposes.

The airport bus runs every 45 minutes, starting at 5:00 am to 10:00 pm (Mon.- Fri.) Routing from King Shaka International Airport to Durban. You can purchase a ticket of 70 ZAR from the bus driver. You can also book a taxi at the airport. The cost of travel to Umhlanga is on average 250 ZAR, and uptown of Durban is around 450 ZAR.

The airport is located about 30 km from Durban. To reach the airport, head north on the M4 expressway and then turn onto M41. Then follow the signs to the airport (road No. 2).
